Company Background
UtopiaCompression Corporation (UC) is a rapidly growing, High Tech company with core competency in computational intelligence developing, and marketing a range of intelligent technologies and products including: content-based image/video and text compression; data mining and knowledge discovery; 3D object/scene modeling; fusion and visualization with a host of applications such as Geographic Information Systems and medical imaging; and autonomous object avoidance and path planning.
UC’s mission is to: (i) Produce superior and innovative products with significant commercial potential and broad economic and societal benefits, (ii) Deliver substantial return on investments and (iii) Create exceptional job opportunities and work environment to attract and retain the best available talent. The vision of UC is to expand the company into a multi-division corporation focused on high-growth, and synergistic and interrelated intelligence-based technology areas and markets. UC team has performed significant research and development in artificial intelligence, machine learning, 2D/3D image compression/modeling, intelligence-based structured text (e.g., XML, HTML) compression and mining, object/pattern recognition, visual knowledge discovery, 3/4D scene modeling and recognition/classification, single and collaborative autonomous vehicle planning, and airborne networking.
UC’s compression technology was recognized as one of the top emerging technologies by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and was the recipient of the prestigious ATP award. Since 2003, UC continues to win multiple Phase I and II government contracts (from DOD, DHS, NASA, NSF and DOE) to research and develop solutions based on UC competencies.
Job Requirements
A PhD (or Post-Doc) in mathematics/statistics, computer science, electrical engineering, or other related areas from a well recognized university is required. The candidate must have a solid mathematics background with attention to image/video (more generally vision), processing/analysis and compression applications. Significant research and development in advanced non standard video and image compression, psycho-visual processing and color coding, machine learning, image/video processing/analysis and vision applications is required. Industry experience will be a distinct plus. The candidate is required to be a visionary and a highly creative, out of the box, problem-solver capable of proposing novel solutions to multiple problems. The candidate will collaborate closely with other R&D scientists and engineers in developing and implementing solutions efficiently. US residents are preferred and strongly encouraged to apply. Competitive compensation is offered for candidates fully meeting UC requirements. UC offers excellent benefits which include medical, dental, vision, stock option plan, accrued vacation time and a creative team work environment.
Job Description
UC is actively developing highly innovative and nontraditional pattern-driven 2D/3D image/video processing/analysis and compression applications utilizing sophisticated machine learning and computational geometry techniques. The sought after candidate will be an integral part of the UC team, establishing and extending in-depth knowledge and expertise in scientific/technical/product aspects of the image/video processing/analysis techniques for various projects at UC. Candidate’s primary responsibility will be to generate and implement advanced and novel ideas, concepts, algorithms, and software, in video and image compression that yield significant superiority over current standards. The candidate will also add considerable intellectual asset to various vision teams at UC.
The candidate will:
Perform research, design, development, testing, and prototyping of advanced algorithms for:
Novel image and video compression methods – candidate must be thoroughly versed with current and future image and video lossy and lossless compression standards and their inner workings at theoretical as well as implantation levels.
Image processing such as denoising and speckle removal, segmentation, enhancement, restoration and edge detection, filtering and deformable 2D/3D models/meshes.
Video processing such segmentation, motion estimation, motion prediction and tracking.
2D/3D statistical analysis, 2D/3D object/pattern detection, recognition and classification, 2D/3D object tracking, 2D/3D scene understanding, summarization and indexing.
Fluency in software analysis, design, and development using C++, C and Matlab programming environment is a must.
Have familiarity and working experience with image/video software packages.
Have familiarity and working experience with different visual sensors such as: infrared, focal plane arrays, electro-optical and radar.
Provide subject matter expertise: establishing in-depth knowledge and suggesting directives for further progress on UC image/video processing/analysis and computer vision technologies.
Provide technical assistance and guidance: preparing proposals, reports, and presentations for internal and external sources such as government agencies and business partners.
