Image Processing and 3D Visualization R&D SCIENTIST
Company Background
UtopiaCompression Corporation (UC) is a rapidly growing, High Tech company with core competency in computational intelligence developing, and marketing a range of intelligent technologies and products including: content-based image/video and text compression; data mining and knowledge discovery; 3D object/scene modeling; fusion and visualization with a host of applications such as Geographic Information Systems and medical imaging; and autonomous object avoidance and path planning.
UC’s mission is to: (i) Produce superior and innovative products with significant commercial potential and broad economic and societal benefits, (ii) Deliver substantial return on investments and (iii) Create exceptional job opportunities and work environment to attract and retain the best available talent. The vision of UC is to expand the company into a multi-division corporation focused on high-growth, and synergistic and interrelated intelligence-based technology areas and markets. UC team has performed significant research and development in artificial intelligence, machine learning, 2D/3D image compression/modeling, intelligence-based structured text (e.g., XML, HTML) compression and mining, object/pattern recognition, visual knowledge discovery, 3/4D scene modeling and recognition/classification, single and collaborative autonomous vehicle planning, and airborne networking.
UC’s compression technology was recognized as one of the top emerging technologies by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and was the recipient of the prestigious ATP award. Since 2003, UC continues to win multiple Phase I and II government contracts (from DOD, DHS, NASA, NSF and DOE) to research and develop solutions based on UC competencies.
Job Requirements
A Ph.D. in computer graphics/science, electrical engineering, mathematics/statistics, or other related areas from a well recognized university is highly preferred, although a strong candidate with an M.S. and significant research and industry experience in advanced computer graphics and image processing will also be considered. Industry experience with outstanding accomplishments is highly preferred. US residents are preferred and strongly encouraged to apply. Competitive compensation is offered for candidates fully meeting UC requirements. UC offers excellent benefits which include medical, dental, vision, stock option plan, accrued vacation time and a creative team work environment.
The ideal candidate will be thoroughly versed in recent research and methods in the areas of computer graphics, visualization, and image processing, particularly state of the art in 3D urban scene modeling and interactive visualization, and should have expertise in advanced image processing and visualization technologies and have familiarity with GIS (geographic information system) related image processing techniques, as well as a proven education/work track record, for most of the technical expertise described above.
The candidate is also required to be a visionary, highly creative problem-solver capable of proposing novel solutions to multiple problems in parallel and of guiding R&D engineers in developing and implementing solutions. The candidate will collaborate closely with other R&D scientists and engineers in developing and implementing solutions efficiently. Candidates with industry and R&D experience in one or more industries (especially military/defense, homeland security, security & surveillance, medical imaging, media & entertainment or wireless) are highly desirable.
Job Description
UC is actively developing highly innovative and nontraditional 2D and 3D image processing, including 3D urban scene modeling, interactive visualization, GIS image classification, segmentation and registration. The sought after candidate will be an integral part of the team, establishing and extending in-depth knowledge and expertise in scientific/technical/product aspects of the image processing, 3D modeling and visualization techniques for various projects at UC.
The ideal candidate will:
1) Perform research, design, development, testing, and prototyping of advanced algorithms and software for the following:
Image processing for automatic feature extraction (such as building footprint, road network, vegetation areas, etc.)
Deriving 3D building models from 2D images (such as LiDAR, Ortho-rectified aerial photo, Oblique imagery, etc.)
3D urban modeling (including terrain, multi-story buildings, etc.)
2D/3D registration and fusion
3D visualization of dynamic urban scenes
2) Have familiarity and working experience with state-of-the-art GIS image processing, 3D modeling, rendering and visualization techniques.
3) Be fluent in software design, analysis, and development using C++, C and MATLAB programming environment. Familiarity with CAD design and working experience with 3D modeling and visualization software, and/or ESRI software/products is a plus.
4) Provide subject matter expertise: establishing in-depth knowledge and suggesting directives for further progress on UC’s computer vision technologies.
5)
Provide technical assistance and guidance: preparing proposals, reports, and presentations for internal and external sources such as government agencies and business partners.
